Internet Marketing Strategies That Work
(Without Being Obnoxious)
Over the last several years, online marketing has been split into two opposing teams. Two tribes, if you will.
Mention the words "Internet marketing" to some, and images of obnoxious "gurus" spring to mind. You know the guys: big red headlines, yellow highlighting, crazy promises and hype. And yet real Internet marketers (not get-rich-quick scam artists) are some of the smartest, wealthiest, and most ethical entrepreneurs you'll ever meet.
Mention the words "social media marketing" to some, and images of touchy-feely idealists who promote community over cash come to mind. And yet some of the smartest people in online marketing successfully participate in social media for higher traffic, better search engine optimization, and larger profits.
You might have guessed that there's an overlap between the best and brightest of both of those two tribes. In fact, the "middle" marketers are the ones to watch.
This middle tribe avoids excessive hype and snake-oil offers. But they have no problem asking for the sale and making money. Lots of money.
These marketers test approaches from every direction to adapt and apply what they learn in a way that works. This tribe profits from the intersection of pragmatism and progress.
This is the Third Tribe.
How did Third Tribe get started? »
Inside the Third Tribe has taken my business to the next level. The support of my fellow Tribers made my first product launch a success.
The seminars feel like a backstage pass to the rock star businesses. The discussions are detailed and results-oriented, and always have some useful information to apply to your own situation. And the forums give me support, advice, feedback and encouragement, not to mention the benefits of rubbing elbows with seasoned veterans and A-list entrepreneurs who've done what I'm trying to do.
One great thing is that through the forum and the Q&A sessions, some really big players in Internet business are really approachable — everyone has a positive, helpful attitude and there's a sense we're all on the same team.
I would recommend Third Tribe to anyone interested in seriously building their business online. The Third Tribe is all about a respectful, authentic approach to business, and that attitude comes through in every aspect of this community.
~ Kelly Kingman, StickyEbooks.com
It all started when Brian Clark of Copyblogger wrote a post about a well-known and innovative direct marketer. He got an email from Seth Godin about it — and Seth didn't like it at all. He essentially asked Brian "what team he was on."
It was a good question. Brian gave it some thought, and got on the phone with Copyblogger Senior Editor Sonia Simone. The two realized that, while they're open to ideas from all kinds of sources, they're not on anybody's "team."
This resulted in what's become known as the "Two Tribes" post on Copyblogger. Sonia playfully stereotyped the "Internet Marketers" and "Social Media Cool Kids" to show how our own "us versus them" thinking can hold everyone back.
The response was incredible. Out of nowhere, people stood up and said "You know what, I'm not a part of either of those two tribes either. Isn't there something else?"
The term "Third Tribe" came up in the comments, and it really seemed to resonate with people. We started seeing it on Facebook and Twitter and other blog posts. The concept caught the eye of social media thought leader Chris Brogan, and he and Brian got on the phone to talk about it.
Pretty quickly, Darren Rowse of Problogger entered the conversation. Which led to more discussions when Sonia became more involved. And so on.
Next thing you know, there are plans in motion, all four co-conspirators do an Internet marketing panel at Blogworld 2009, and lots of general anticipation and speculation follow.
That's pretty much the story. Here's what's happened since.
We want to invite you to join something that's proven to be meaningful and rewarding for everyone involved — financially and otherwise.
If it turns out to be a good fit for you, you're welcome with open arms.
Who's involved with Third Tribe? »
When I considered joining Third Tribe, I was concerned that because my business had not launched yet, the teaching would be too advanced for me.
But without Third Tribe, my marketing plan, choice of tools, and business model would be different -- and weaker.
I learned there are many non-pushy ways to run a successful business online and I am free to choose what works best for me and my market.
I would recommend Third Tribe to anyone who is running a business that has a presence online, especially if you have a small team and limited resources. The Third Tribe is an inexpensive way to receive high quality consulting and coaching, with the added bonus of a worldwide mastermind group in the forums.

These are the people who organized Third Tribe, but it's grown way beyond the four of us:
Darren Rowse — Many of you know Darren as the founder of Problogger, a site that has been helping commercial bloggers succeed for over five years. But the bulk of Darren's income doesn't actually come from blogging about blogging. It comes from building powerful niche content-focused communities, then thoughtfully monetizing them with advertising and affiliate marketing.
Brian Clark — Brian is entering his 12th year as an online publisher and marketer. He built three offline businesses using online content before launching Copyblogger, where he shares what he's learned about the fast-moving online marketing space. Brian now specializes in developing digital products and services powered by online content marketing.
Chris Brogan — An overnight success after only 11 years of hard work, Chris Brogan is a social media superhero. Chris brings a third unique perspective to online marketing by attracting top-notch consulting clients, reaping the rewards of the speaking circuit, and publishing a best-selling book.
Sonia Simone — Sonia left the corporate marketing and communications world to become Senior Editor of Copyblogger early in 2009. She quickly took over the place, turned her Remarkable Communication site into a thriving business, and doubled her previous income. All while having a lot more fun than she ever did in the corporate world. Sonia proves that smartly positioning yourself for success can lead to rapid rewards online.
More Third Tribers — You'll also be getting insight from and interaction with other Third Tribers such as John Jantsch, Leo Babauta, Pam Slim, Johnny Truant, Chris Garrett, Dave Navarro, Jonathan Fields, Hugh MacLeod, Laura Roeder, Mark McGuinness, Aaron Wall, and many more as time goes on.
You! — The most important aspect of the Third Tribe depends on you getting involved. So, your next question might be . . .
There's one characteristic to the Third Tribe that isn't immediately apparent in the sales material, and it's something you won't know until you're "inside." It's the responsiveness of the folks who run the show. They're on the forums, they're answering questions and they're responding to requests. They take very good care of their members. I appreciate this, and I know others do, too.

Think Internet Marketing is about some guy in a bathrobe, working a "system" from his basement office?
Not any more. Today's smart internet business owners know it's all about connections and community.
Traditional brick-and-mortar business owners spend thousands of dollars a year on trade associations, their local Chamber of Commerce, and networking groups. (And don't even ask what it costs to belong to a country club.)
They'll happily spend more on a single networking breakfast than the fee for a whole month of Third Tribe.
And it's well worth it.
They spend this money and time because it's how they grow their businesses. New marketing tips, new referral contacts, a single new idea — that's all they're looking for. Exposure to other entrepreneurs and business leaders makes the investment of time and money all worthwhile.
They know that success is contagious. When they make a habit of spending time with other smart, successful business owners, they see their own business grow.
Third Tribe is a community that's passionate about the latest in Internet Marketing. And there are plenty of tactics, techniques, and tips to learn from.
But often the greatest growth in your business comes from interacting with instructors, mentors, authors, and other entrepreneurs.
This is the true vision for Third Tribe. So here's what you can expect from your Third Tribe membership:
Live Q&A Advice
Each month features two live Q&A calls. You'll get to ask Darren, Brian, Chris or Sonia (and occasionally, another successful Third Tribers) specific questions about your specific situation. Most of us don't take consulting clients at any price. Again, these Q&A calls are worth way more than the price of admission alone, and they're in addition to the educational seminar content.
A Vibrant Networking and Advice Community
The true lasting value of this private community comes from the networking, deal-making, support, and insights that come from the interaction among members.
You'll find colleagues and friends from every stage of online business. Millionaires and "newbies," passionate beginners and ultra-successful entrepreneurs who have truly seen it all. And you'll meet "behind the scenes" folks who don't discuss their businesses on blogs or social media — but they are willing to go into surprising detail about what makes their projects work.
The relationships that form here are worth more than we could ever charge you. And you'll see people being much more candid about the behind-the-scenes aspects of their businesses than they ever would be on the outside.
Live Events
The first Third Tribe live even came together at SXSW 2010, and informal meet-ups have happened in Austin, London, and Toronto. We'll continue to connect Tribers with special events, meet-ups at conferences, and lots of other cool Third Tribe stuff that you won't want to miss out on. You'll also get member-only discounts and access to offers that won't be publicly available.
All of this interaction is powered by a top-notch Internet marketing education in the Third Tribe seminars. And you'll have a whole lot to instantly get started with.
You've probably heard that "it's not what you know, it's who you know."
Actually, it's both. And the Third Tribe exists to improve your business on both fronts.
If you're doing business online, you need to keep yourself informed. What's working today? What's tired and on the way out? What are the emerging trends? What killer new tools will help expand our businesses?
Each month you'll receive one (or more) expert audio class or webinar on an Internet marketing topic. These educational sessions are designed to be worth much more than the price of admission alone.
Every Third Tribe seminar focuses on what works. Not theory. Not an interesting idea. Instead, proven techniques, from entrepreneurs who are running real, profitable businesses thanks to online marketing.

- Moving from Idea to Action
Ever get caught in analysis paralysis when trying to develop a product, launch a new site, or implement a marketing strategy? Too many ideas and not enough results?
In this seminar, veteran blogger, coach, and entrepreneur Chris Garrett talks with Sonia Simone about specific steps you can take to start moving forward with your goals. They'll help you understand what motivates you, help you learn to control "shiny object syndrome," and teach you the specific steps you can take to turn your dreams into achieved goals. - Online Public Relations Powered by SEO
Can you effectively use search engine optimization for public relations purposes? Absolutely, and those who can benefit most are the nimble online entrepreneurs who understand the simple tactics and strategies that make PR and SEO natural partners.
Lee Odden is CEO of TopRank Online Marketing, and a thought leader at the convergence of public relations and search. Lee shares his wisdom by revealing and explaining five key ways that PR + SEO can connect you with mainstream journalists, score you organic links, protect your reputation and brand, and more.
Other reputable online training sites charge anywhere from $97 to $127 for a single seminar. And that's a fair price, given the improvement quality education can make to your business.
Based on those market prices, you're getting well over $1,400 in quality education instantly when you sign up.
You'll also get 2 live Q&A sessions your first month (plus access to over 8 hours of archived frequently asked questions). You'll hear expert advice from people who charge a lot of money for consulting ... and some who don't offer consulting at any price.
That's in addition to the 24/7 interactive member forum. This is where you'll establish the relationships, do the deals, form the partnerships, and learn new things you never knew you needed to know.
Get it all for a one-time payment of only $97.
You get all those hours of expert seminar content and a 30-day test drive inside the Third Tribe for the price of one dubious "guru" e-book, and you get to download and keep all the seminars even if you decide not to stick around. If you do stick with us in Third Tribe, it's only $47 a month after your initial month of access is completed.
If someone offered you continual access to business-building and life-changing information and interaction, and told you it would cost you about a buck and-a-half a day, you'd feel silly for saying no. That's what we're offering with Third Tribe, and it works out to only $1.56 a day based on the monthly fee — and you're locked into that price for the life of your membership.
You'll earn back the small monthly fee (and more) from just one good marketing tip, one new relationship, or one new great idea or strategy. Odds are you'll be getting multiples of all three, each and every month.
Before I joined, I asked myself if I would really utilize the site . . . and the answer is a big fat YES. Just about anyone will find it helpful; you've got your seasoned pro's and the newbies all playing nicely together and nobody is made to feel like an idiot. I'm really enjoying Third Tribe -- thank you! ~ Jeff Turner, FitToPlay.com
Why Not Free?
Everyone knows Darren, Brian, Chris, and Sonia give away tons of free content. So why pay even a small fee to get more from them?
Well, because free has its limitations:
- First of all, people with high public profiles can say things in a private setting that they wouldn't share out in the open. So you get exclusive insights you wouldn't get otherwise.
- Plus, private communities lead to better relationships and outcomes. The "troll factor" is virtually eliminated, even at a very modest price. We've seen it happen time and again. The Third Tribe community is a group of committed professionals at all levels — the people who can accelerate your business goals.
- And finally, the simplest point of all: Not everything is free, nor should it be. Premium education, advice, and connections are valuable. If you don't see it that way, that's okay . . . but you likely won't fit in here.
Join the Third Tribe today... it's value-packed and friendly inside.
I like that because of the monthly fee, people CHOOSE to be there. It's not just anyone who can pop in and spam. It is a paid forum, therefore there are people in there who take the topics seriously and actually try to help. I am one of those people. I've been online since 1995 -- and running several successful businesses. I like to offer that experience to others. ~ Heather Claus, 365DaysOfStyle.com
Try Third Tribe With No Risk

Cool? Let's get started.
I cannot think of an appropriate way to thank you. The atmosphere you have created is unbelievable. As I have tweeted and said to anyone who will listen ;-) joining the Third Tribe was one of the best decisions I have made in my life.
